Allen Elementary
BAY TREE DESIGN partnered with Oakland-based Hibser Yamauchi Architects to create an entirely new campus at Allen Elementary School providing a diverse and inclusive space for Pre-K through elementary students. The 5-acre sloping site in San Bruno features a separate Pre-K – Kindergarten campus, two elementary play yards, a sports field, an educational garden, outdoor STEM classroom, and a circular amphitheater which sweeps up the hill graciously transitioning from the sheltered eating area to the play yards. Accessible paths are integrated throughout this steep site, with native plantings sited to provide wind buffers, seasonal shade, and learning environments.
The project was constructed in 2 phases while the school was in session from the summer of 2021 to the fall of 2023.
